When/Why did you decide to become and Entrepreneur?
I returned to wearing my hair natural in 2001 and overtime the movement continued to grow. Fast forward to the fall of 2012. While I was sitting at a local high school football game one Friday evening I noticed that all the natural hair women in the stands had their hair styled in an Afro Puff. Which to this day is one of the most common styles worn by women with natural hair. I thought to myself it would be nice if we could accent this style! I shared my thoughts with a friend and she suggested that I make something. I’ve been creating things by hand since childhood, so I decided to give it a try. After some testing and fine-tuning, I created Accented Glory’s first and signature natural hair accessory design “The Afro Puff Holder”.

 Who/What is your inspiration?
My three daughters and myself were my first customers! We are all naturals and before launching Accented Glory, noticed that hair accessories in retail stores catered to young girls and were not natural hair friendly. This void inspired us to create a brand that offers hair accessories for adult women with natural hair, created with materials that minimize damage to textured hair, provides comfortable wear, and endures natural hair care regimens. We choose fabrics and materials that don’t cause friction with kinky, coily, and curly hair and assist in maintaining healthy tresses. We test wear our designs to ensure they are not only stylish but comfy.

 What is your WHY?
My WHY is my three beautiful daughters! They are my inspiration. I want to create a family legacy and brand that they can continue to build upon.

How is what you do making an impact?
I provide a variety of design options and “natural hair friendly” solutions for women with kinky, coily, and curly hair who want to style their hair with accessories. My specialty is natural hair accessory and Afrocentric jewelry designs. All of my headband designs are adjustable which allows the wearer to control the tension and avoid headband headaches. My fabric headbands are satin lined to avoid causing breakage and drying out of natural hair. My earring and hair jewelry designs are created with lightweight metals. When wearing my earrings you avoid earlobe droop and my hair jewelry doesn’t weigh down your locs, twists, or braids. Cowrie shells are one of my creative muses. They are incorporated into most of my designs. My customers are able to express their African heritage with fun, bold, and stylish designs created by Accented Glory. No look is complete without great accessories!

How Hard are you willing to go for your passion?
I sow into my brand daily! I’m a parallel entrepreneur and recently cut my workweek at my 9-5 (day job) back, so I can spend more time building my brand. I provide a variety of comfortable and stylish “natural hair-friendly” accessory designs for women. I want to be the go-to brand for women who want to style their natural hair with accessories.
